Indians 8, Rangers 6: At Arlington, Texas, Travis Hafner and Jhonny Peralta hit two-run homers off Pedro Astacio (1-4) in Cleveland’s seven-run first inning en route to defeating Texas.

Athletics 6, Yankees 3 (10): At New York, Oakland scored three times in the 10th inning without hitting a ball out of the infield, beating Mariano Rivera and bumbling New York. The Yankees made three errors in the 10th.

Twins 7, Devil Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Minnesota’s Johan Santana rebounded from his first loss in a nearly a year, scattering six hits for his second career complete game as Minnesota beat Tampa Bay.

Orioles 3, Royals 1: At Baltimore, Sidney Ponson pitched eight innings of five-hit ball for his third straight win, and B.J. Surhoff had three hits and two RBIs in Baltimore’s victory over Kansas City.

White Sox 5, Blue Jays 3: At Toronto, A.J. Pierzynski hit a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning to lead Chicago over Toronto and to its sixth straight victory.

Angels 4, Tigers 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Kelvim Escobar pitched 7 1/3 strong innings, and Steve Finley tripled in two runs and doubled home another in Los Angeles’ win over Detroit – its fifth straight victory.

National League

Marlins 7, Rockies 0: At Miami, Dontrelle Willis stayed undefeated and became the major leagues’ first six-game winner, allowing five hits in seven innings to help Florida beat Colorado.

Phillies 3, Cubs 2: At Chicago, LaTroy Hawkins blew his third save of the season, allowing the tying and winning runs to score on his throwing error that gave Philadelphia a victory over Chicago.

Braves 9, Astros 4: At Atlanta, Johnny Estrada hit a three-run homer and six other Atlanta players drove in runs, leading the surging Braves to a victory over Houston.

Dodgers 13, Reds 6: At Cincinnati, Jeff Kent had a two-run homer and a three-run double in a 10-run first inning, and Los Angeles defeated Cincinnati.

Mets 7, Brewers 4: At Milwaukee, Mike Piazza homered his first two at-bats, giving him home runs in three straight plate appearances, and New York snapped Milwaukee’s seven-game winning streak.

Padres 6, Cardinals 5: At St. Louis, Mark Sweeney had a two-run home run and three RBIs to help San Diego defeat St. Louis.

Diamondbacks 8, Pirates 4: At Phoenix, Troy Glaus drove in four runs, three of them with a 464-foot homer, to help Arizona beat Pittsburgh.

Nationals 9, Giants 3: At San Francisco, Ryan Church hit a bases-clearing double and Brad Wilkerson had three hits and drew a bases-loaded walk for Washington, which beat San Francisco. The Nationals produced 10 or more hits for the fourth straight game and fifth in six.
