Among the literary events in the region over the following week:

• Janae DeWitt will read from and sign her book “Break Forth the Dawn” on Monday at 7 p.m. at Hastings, 15312 E. Sprague Ave., Spokane Valley (924-0667). Her reading will be followed by an Inspirational Reader’s Group discussion of “Duet” by Robert Elmer.

• The Rev. Joseph Conwell, a former chairman of the theology department at Gonzaga University, will read from his books “A Brief and Exact Account: The Recollections of Simao Rodrigues on the Origin and Progress of the Society of Jesus” and “Walking in the Spirit: A Reflection on Jeronimo Nadal’s Phrase ‘Contemplative Likewise in Action’ ” on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave. (838-0206).

• Gia Carlson of Liberty Lake will discuss her self-help computer game “The Journey to Wild Divine” on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore. She also will discuss “The Book of Secrets” by Deepak Chopra, who has endorsed her game.

• The Barnes & Noble Sci-Fi/Fantasy book group will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the store, 15310 E. Indiana Ave. (922-4104)

• Dan Hill’s eighth-grade class from Trinity Catholic School will read from their own works and from works by their favorite authors on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore.

• Author/photographer Kim Heacox will read from his new book “The Only Kayak: A Journey Into the Heart of Alaska” on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore.

• An amateur poetry slam will be Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at On Sacred Grounds, 163 S. Lincoln St. (747-6294). Limited seating; please RSVP.

• New York Times best-selling children’s author Glenn Murray will read from his latest book, “Rough Weather Ahead for Walter the Farting Dog,” on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore. The group will be joined by puppies from SpokAnimal C.A.R.E.

• Thubten Chodron will present her new book “How to Free the Mind” on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at Hastings, 101 E. Appleway, Coeur d’Alene (208-664-0464).
