Man dies in plane crash in Elk River

From staff reports

A Walla Walla man was killed Friday in a plane crash in Elk River, Idaho, the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The two-seat Cessna crashed about 5:30 p.m. soon after taking off from the Elk River airstrip, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

The passenger in the plane, Jarl Arne Fossum, 61, was killed.

The pilot, Juan Carlos Gullhein, 27, was transported to Gritman Memorial Hospital in Moscow with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash, which is the second this month at the airstrip.
