Mead golfer Eneroth wins District 8 4A
Mead senior Amy Eneroth shot 2-over-par 74 on Wednesday to win the District 8 4A girls golf championship at MeadowWood Golf Course.
Eneroth’s two-day total of 146 defeated Lewis and Clark junior Molly Fuhs by six strokes. University senior Mandy Parsons, who led all players with a 73 on Wednesday, finished third at 153.
Fourth-place Annie Brophy of Gonzaga Prep shot 154.
The top eight placers will return to MeadowWood on June 1-2 for the State 4A championship.
Baseball
Chris Bozo’s walk-off single scored Pat Burke and gave Ferris (15-6) a 3-2 victory over Central Valley (11-10) in a loser-out game of the District 8 4A tournament at Avista Stadium. Ferris tied the game in the sixth inning, when pinch-runner Danny Higgins stole second base and scored on Chad Berland’s RBI single. … In the other loser-out game at Avista, University defeated Gonzaga Prep 4-3. Joe Cox’s two-run single in the bottom of the third gave the Titans (12-8) a 4-1 lead. Billy Karwacki brought G-Prep (9-11) within one on a two-run single in the top of fifth, but the game was called in the fifth because of rain. … On Friday at Avista, Ferris will play No. 2 seed Shadle Park (14-5) in one district semifinal at 4, followed by U-Hi against No. 1 seed Mt. Spokane (15-4) at 7.
•Buddy Wood scored from third on a botched suicide squeeze attempt in the top of the 12th as No. 6 seed Riverside (6-16) upset No. 2 Chewelah (15-6) 2-1 in a District 7 2A semifinal at Chewelah. Both pitchers went the distance. Riverside’s James Winterroth struck out nine, walked one and hit a batter, while Chewelah’s A.J. Proszek struck out 14 without a walk. … In the other semifinal, No. 1 Pullman (19-2) cruised to a 13-3 victory over No. 5 Medical Lake (11-11) in six innings at Pullman. Sam Tennant hit a two-run home run and Ryan Druffel added a two-run single in a six-run Greyhounds fifth. … The district tournament will conclude Saturday in Pullman. Chewelah and Medical Lake will play a loser-out game at 10 a.m., followed by Riverside and Pullman for the district title at 1 p.m. The winner of the first game will play the loser of the championship game for the second seed to state.
Tennis
The District 8 4A championships began throughout Spokane. The top three seeds in each division advanced to semifinals, but three No. 4 seeds fell in the first three rounds. In girls singles, Ferris’ Katie Griffith upset Shadle Park’s Nicole Seedall in the second round, 6-2, 6-0; while in girls doubles quarterfinals, Kelsey McLauchlin and Kellie Mays of Ferris fell to teammates Michelle Curtis and Christy Curtis in three sets. James Connelly and Ryan O’Neill of Lewis and Clark also lost in the quarterfinals.
