Shadle, U-Hi in 4A softball title game

Stephanie Trudeau struck out 10 in a one-hit shutout as Shadle Park (20-1) advanced to today’s District 8 4A softball championship game with a 7-0 victory over Mt. Spokane (17-5) on Monday at Whitworth College.

Samantha Skillingstad led the Highlanders’ offense with two hits, including a key three-run double in a five-run third inning.

Shadle will meet University (18-2) in the championship game at 5 p.m. after U-Hi defeated Mead (18-4) 1-0.

After U-Hi’s Ashley Patterson drew a walk with one out in the fifth, Kayla Griffith pinch ran and stole second base. The throw bounced off Griffith’s helmet and rolled into left-center field, allowing Griffith to get up and score the game’s only run.

Mead and Mt. Spokane will play the third-place game at 3 p.m.

•Odessa (15-8) earned the final District 7 B playoff berth with a 9-4 victory over Springdale (9-12) in a play-in game at Davenport. Jennie Harp, who struck out eight, hit 3 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs.

Baseball

No. 8 hitter David Cram hit a two-run double in the second, then added a go-ahead, two-run triple in the third to give Reardan a 15-11 victory over Lind-Ritzville in the District 7 B championship game at Avista Stadium. The Broncos loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Indians closer Austin Garner struck out the final two batters to end the game. The third-place game ran late; the result was not available at press time.

Tennis

Lewis and Clark swept the team titles in the District 8 4A tournament, which concluded at University… . Whitman Hough of Ferris won the boys singles title, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 over Ben Gullickson of LC… . Mt. Spokane finished 1-2 in boys doubles, as Jon Assmus and Andy Dorr defeated Edwin Miller and Andy Vanderpoole 6-2, 6-4. … On the girls side, LC took three of the top five singles spots. Elise Otto defeated Anna Gullickson 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the championship match, while Tana Webb took fifth. Gonzaga Prep’s Amy Esmay and MacKenzie MacLean won girls doubles championship, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 over LC’s Natalie Cholaj and Leslie Griffith.

Golf

Eight GSL players earned state tournament berths in the girls 3A Eastern Regional at Hangman Valley. East Valley’s Ashley Saffle earned medalist honors with an 82, defeating West Valley’s Ashley Weiber by four strokes. Kaylin Carlson, one of five Clarkston Bantams going to state, finished third with a 90. … Two Bantams earned state berths in the boys 3A Eastern Regional at The Creek at Qualchan. Joel Dahmen finished third with a 1-over 73, while teammate Robert Lane shot 77 for seventh place. West Valley-Yakima will send four players to state, including medalist Bobby Elder, who shot 72. … Kettle Falls won the boys District 7 1A championship at Deer Park Golf Course. Jason Azzarito earned medalist honors with a two-day total of 151, defeating Kyle McPherson of Colfax by one stroke.
