AL Rankings List
NEW YORK (AP) — The 2004-05 American League rankings, compiled by the Elias Sports Bureau, to determine what draft choices are used as compensation for free agents under the 1981, 1985 and 1996 strike settlements between the Major League Baseball Players Association and the major league clubs. The rankings also are used to compare players. They combine statistics such as batting average, plate appearances, home runs and runs batted in for hitters, and starts, innings, earned-run average, saves and strikeouts for pitchers. The statistics used vary from position to position:
