This is old hat for Richland.

In what has now become a yearly event, Caroline Hedel and Jamie Arthurs each scored twice as Richland beat University 5-0 in the first round of the State 4A girls soccer tournament Saturday in Richland.

The loss marked the fourth year in a row the Titans have lost to Richland in the State tournament.

U-Hi’s Alli Meyer made four saves as Richland outshot the Titans 18-12. University finishes its season at 16-2.

•Melissa Jensen scored twice as West Valley (Yakima) blanked East Valley (Spokane) 4-0 in Yakima to win the 3A regional title and earn a No. 1 seed to the State 3A tournament. The Knights, who were outshot 18-4, got eight saves from goalkeeper Megan Como. East Valley (9-9) goes to state as a No. 2 seed and will play Seattle Prep Tuesday at Memorial Stadium in Seattle in the first round of the state tournament. … In other 3A regional action, Hanford scored three times in a five-minute span to shut out Cheney 3-0 in a loser-out, winner-to-state matchup in Cheney. Britney Bond scored on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, Blake Loos scored in the 55th and Kelly Hoftler added a third in the 57th minute for Hanford. Cheney, which was outshot 12-7, finishes its season 9-11.

•Kendra Heim scored the deciding goal as Pullman won the District 7 2A title by beating Riverside 2-1 in a shootout at Mead. The win gave the Greyhounds (16-1) a No. 1 seed to state, while Riverside (10-6) will go as a No. 2 seed. Katie Spangenberg opened the scoring in the 31st minute for Pullman before Tabitha Grow evened the score just three minutes later. Pullman will host East Valley (Yakima) at 2 p.m. Tuesday, while Riverside will travel to Ephrata for a 4 p.m. game, also on Tuesday.
