The B’s
Northeast B-11: If history holds, the NEB-11 football season is far from over. The last three state B-11 champions (Lind-Ritzville 2004, Reardan 2002-03) were from the NEB-11, and in the last four years, the league is 9-4 in the first round of the state playoffs. Three of those losses were to DeSales, and one came in 2002 when Reardan beat Odessa, a clash of two NEB-11 teams.
District 7 volleyball: In the last two years of the State B tournament, since the tournament switched over to the current 16-team tournament with no pool play, District 7 teams are 16-10, with 5 of 7 entries placing.
Southeast B-11: DeSales (9-1) will begin its quest for its fifth state B-11 football championship Friday night with a first-round game against Liberty (7-2), the Northeast’s No. 3 seed, in Kennewick. Asotin (7-2) will make its second straight state appearance, traveling to Central Washington champion Mabton (10-0).
Southeast B-8: State B-8 football playoffs begin next week as three-time defending champion LaCrosse-Washtucna (10-0) hosts Northeast No. 2 seed Sprague-Harrington (8-2) in its first-round game. St. John-Endicott (6-3), the winner of Tuesday’s three-way tiebreaker for the No. 2 seed, travels to Northeast champion Columbia-Hunters (10-0), which lost to LaCrosse-Washtucna in last year’s championship game.
Whitman County League: The WCL, including defending champion Garfield-Palouse, was shut out of this year’s State B volleyball tournament. Dayton and Pomeroy of the Blue Mountain Conference earned both District 9 playoff berths.
