Devoe returns to Denver

Broncos receiver Todd Devoe was at practice Friday, a day after he told Denver coach Mike Shanahan his father died in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Devoe was added to Denver’s injury report as questionable with “personal matters.”

“Something did happen in Fort Lauderdale and me and my family would really appreciate if everybody would just leave my family in Fort Lauderdale alone, and let them be in peace,” Devoe said.

Shanahan said Thursday that Devoe’s father was killed in Fort Lauderdale. Spokesmen for the Fort Lauderdale Police, Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Miami Police Department and Miami-Dade Police Department said Thursday they had no information on any recent homicides in their respective areas.

Taylor to miss game

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor will not play Sunday against Baltimore because of an injury to his right ankle.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio wouldn’t say who will start against the Ravens.

But Del Rio said backup running back LaBrandon Toefield – inactive in three of the team’s last four games – would be in uniform.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper will have surgery on his right knee next week to repair torn ligaments.
