Meet The Met

Two special film-related events are coming to The Met. The Banff Mountain Film Festival, the annual festival of outdoor-themed films, opens its three-day

run at 7 tonight. Then at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 28, The Met’s ongoing cinema series presents a three-day run of “Touch the Sound,” a documentary about Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glennie, who doesn’t let her impaired hearing get in the way of her music. 227-7638 or www.mettheater.com.

Getting political

You can spend “An Evening with Arundhati Roy,” along with guests Amy Goodman, Boots Riley and David Barsamian, at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Community Building, 35. W. Main Ave. The film, which was directed by Aradhana Seth, was recorded on Aug. 18, 2004, at the Berkeley Community Theater. A $5 donation is encouraged, and the popcorn will be free. 747-3807.

Just the facts

Both Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon sing all their own songs in the Johnny Cash/June Carter Cash bio-pic “Walk the Line,” which opens today.
