Gonzaga loses opener

Amber Jackson had 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead San Jose State to a 69-61 victory over Gonzaga in the season opener for both teams at San Jose, Calif.

Stephanie Hawk had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, and Anne Bailey added 18 points and seven rebounds.

•Charmaine Jones hit all nine of her free throws, scored 19 points and pulled down six rebounds as Washington State defeated Pepperdine 66-57 in the season opener for both teams at Friel Court in Pullman.

•Phynique Allen scored 10 points to lead a balanced Eastern Washington attack in a 63-53 victory over Saint Mary’s (0-1) at Reese Court in Cheney.

Felice Moore (Central Valley), who also had seven rebounds, and Breana Olson each scored nine points for the Eagles (1-1).

•Leilani Mitchell scored 19 points and added five rebounds, seven assists and seven steals to lead Idaho to a 63-48 non-conference victory over Portland in the season opener for both teams Friday at Memorial Gym in Moscow.

Former national scoring champion Emily Faurholt led the Vandals with 22 points and eight rebounds, hitting 4 of 6 3-point attempts.

•Sarah Scates (Chewelah) had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists in her collegiate debut as Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Blue Mountain 89-61 in the Eastern Region Tip-Off at Spokane Falls Community College.

Melissa Claflin (Shadle Park) had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Sasquatch (1-0) and Brittany O’Neal (Lewis and Clark) added 10 points and five steals as CCS forced 31 Blue Mountain turnovers.
