Dear Readers: ‘Tis the season to eat, drink and be merry, but be careful what you share with your pets. The holidays might put you in a giving mood, but resist the temptation to feed your pets holiday foods:

• Bones from turkey, chicken and even steak are a choking hazard and can get stuck in a pet’s throat, stomach or intestines.

• Don’t feed them fatty foods. This can often make pets sick and even cause death.

• Plants can be dangerous, too – particularly holly and mistletoe – if eaten. Keep them out of reach.

• Hang sharp or breakable ornaments and stringy tinsel high enough that your pet can’t get at them. – Heloise
