Division III

Brett Elliott threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns and Linfield doubled up Concordia-Moorhead 28-14 in McMinnville, Ore., in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Linfield (10-0), which outscored Concordia-Moorhead (10-2) 21-0 in the second half, will play Wisconsin-Whitewater in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In other Division III second-round games, Mount Union (11-1) stomped Augustana (10-2) 44-7 in Alliance, Ohio; Capital (10-2) held on for a 14-11 win over Wabash (11-1) in Crawfordsville, Ind.; Wisconsin-Whitewater (12-0) cruised to a 34-7 win over St. John’s (11-1) in Whitewater, Minn.; Delaware Valley (12-0) topped Hobart (9-2) 21-14 in Doylestown, Pa.; Rowan (10-1) held on for a 28-24 win over Union (11-1) in Schenectady, N.Y.; Bridgewater (10-1) defeated Thiel (11-1) in Greenville, Pa.; and Wesley (11-1) outslugged Mary Hardin-Baylor (9-2) 46-36 in Belton, Texas.

NAIA

Jed Thomas ran for 218 yards and two touchdowns to lead top-ranked and three-time defending champion Carroll College to a 24-0 victory over Montana Tech (8-4) in Helena in the quarterfinals of the NAIA football playoffs.

Three-time defending champion Carroll (12-0) advances to the semifinals for the sixth straight year. Carroll will play host to No. 4 Sioux Falls (11-1) on Saturday.

Thomas scored on a 48-yard run in the second quarter to give the Saints a 10-0 halftime lead. He also had a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The game was played in bitterly cold conditions, with a strong wind blowing through Nelson Stadium, grounding both teams’ offenses.

Other quarterfinal games: St. Francis, Ind. 44, Georgetown, Ky. 14; Sioux Falls, S.D. 48, Tabor, Kan.13; Morningside, Iowa 54, Evangel, Mo. 21.

Division II

Cullen Finnerty threw two touchdown passes to lead top-ranked Grand Valley State (11-0) to a 24-17 NCAA Division II quarterfinal victory over Saginaw Valley (11-2) in Allendale, Mich.

In other Division II playoff games, East Stroudsburg (11-2) crushed C.W. Post 55 (10-3) 55-28 in East Stroudsburg, Pa.; North Alabama (11-2) eked out a 41-38 overtime victory over Central Arkansas (11-3) in Conway, Ark.; and Northwest Missouri State (10-3) rolled to a 21-10 win over Pittsburg State (10-4) in Pittsburg, Kan.
