Ukrainian Dance group performing Saturday

The Spokesman-Review

The Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company will present its touring production, “Cheremosh … Revolutions,” on Saturday at 8 p.m. at The Met, 901 W. Sprague Ave.

The semiprofessional, Canadian-based company performs a variety of regional dance styles, from the high-kicking, boot-slapping steps of the western Ukraine to the lyrical, flowing dances of the central region. Five character dances on the program include “The Riding Cossacks,” featuring 18 male dancers in a 16-minute production punctuated by acrobatics and swordplay.

The 50-member troupe, founded in 1969, has performed throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico and United Kingdom. It received the Excellence in Artistry Award from the Alberta Council for Ukrainian Arts in 1996, and the Salute to Excellence Arts Achievement Award from the city of Edmonton in 1997.

Tickets are $25, through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).
