Positions will be open on planning, lodging panels

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane Valley is accepting applications for two positions on the Spokane Valley Planning Commission as well as a seat on the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on a wide range of important land-use issues that affect housing, business, transportation, the environment and other areas.

Two members on the seven-seat commission will reach the end of their three-year terms in January and will be up for re-appointment.

Those interested in the position can find an application at the city’s Web site, www.spokanevalley.org, under “volunteer opportunities” or contact city clerk Chris Bainbridge at 688-0177. Her e-mail address is cbainbridge@spokanevalley.org.

Applications are due Nov. 1. Commissioners are nominated by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council.

The planning commission usually meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays twice a month. The position is unpaid.

The five-member lodging tax committee has an opening for someone who is involved in activities authorized to be funded by the tax, per chapter 3.20 of the city’s municipal code.

Qualified people interested in the position should contact Bainbridge for more information. Applications are due Friday.
