The following nonprofit organizations need volunteer help. If you’re interested, please contact them directly:

Post Falls Hospice Thrift Shop: Volunteers urgently needed. Duties include sorting, general duties, lifting, and possibly cashiering. Men are encouraged to apply. Six-hour shifts once a week, Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4p.m. Stop by 503 E. Seltice for an application, or phone 772-7994 or 773-8534.

Teen Aid Project, after-school tutoring: Volunteers needed to tutor high school students who are failing or near-failing in their core subjects (math, English, science, history and languages). One hour twice a week (flexible) is recommended. Project hours are Monday-Thurday, 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m., at a local church starting Oct. 31. Call Frank Bittick, 666-0406.

Hometown Heroes: Volunteers of all shapes and sizes are needed for an after-school enrichment program, 4-5 p.m., Thursdays, Ponderosa Elementary School in Post Falls. Past volunteers taught kids how to juggle, build birdhouses, dissect squid, make rootbeer, design logos, etc. We’re open to suggestions. Call Camy, 777-9086.

Idaho Reads!: Volunteers needed to help with the new Idaho Reads! Literacy Program. Volunteers will read with children in grades 1-3, help with family literacy events, and work on book drives at Mullan Trail Elementary School in Post Falls. Hours are flexible. Background checks are required. Call Bethany, 457-0772.

Coeur d’Alene Library: Volunteers needed to be added to our volunteer list. Also, volunteers will be needed by Friends of the Library during the holidays to help with fund-raising activities. David, 769-2315.
