Events scheduled to honor plane crash victim

Treaty Rock Realty owner Allen Mastros will be honored at events today and Thursday, a week after dying in a plane crash in Oroville, Calif. He was 53.

Mastros, a longtime resident of Post Falls, will be remembered as someone who was very involved in the community. He served on the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the school district’s long-range planning committee. And he was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

His interests included flying, playing guitar, rafting and fly fishing.

Collin Coles, Post Falls’ senior planner, described him as someone always on the move.

“I don’t know how he found the time to do it all, but he did,” said Coles, who fished with Allen. “He was always, constantly entertaining people. He was real fun-loving.”

Mastros was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Largo, Fla.

Mastros was flying with Gary “Bear” Smith, 63, of Grass Valley, Calif., in Smith’s plane when it went down Oct. 10 at the Oroville Municipal Airport. .

Federal aviation officials are investigating.

Mastros is survived by his mother, Patricia Mastros of Port Richey, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Joe Delaney of Brewerton, N.Y.; his daughter and grandson, Swaniee and Riley Grubb of Las Cruces, N.M.; and several other relatives.

His family will host visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and a memorial service at 3 p.m. Thursday, all at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.

Donations in Mastros’ name may be made to the Coeur d’Alene branches of the American Cancer Society or American Red Cross.
