GU men fourth in N.Y. golf event

Gonzaga University’s men’s golf team shot a two-round total of 619 to finish in fourth place in the nine team Tillinghast Men’s Golf Tournament that concluded on Tuesday at Scarsdale, N.Y.

Host St. John’s University won the team title with a 591, 11 strokes better than runner-up Villanova University. University of Cincinnati finished in third at 609.

Colin Floyd tied for sixth and was the low shooter for the Bulldogs with a 149 after consistent rounds of 74 and 75 at the 6,191-yard, par-70 Fenway Golf Club. Reyn Tanaka (153) and Trevor Loe (154) also had top-20 finishes for Gonzaga. Medalist honors went to St. John’s Keegan Bradley after his two-round total of 144.

Gonzaga concludes its fall season on Nov. 7-8 at the Countrywide Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif.

Junior hockey

Billy Newman’s goal at the 2-minute, 31-second mark in overtime capped a big comeback, giving the Spokane Flyers a 6-5 win over the Coeur d’Alene Colts in North Pacific Hockey League play at Eagles Ice-A-Rena on Wednesday night.

The Flyers trailed 5-1 after the first period of play, but four goals in the final 14 minutes of regulation left the score tied at 5, Jon Clark scored twice and Davis Norling made 18 saves for Spokane. The Colts’ Russ Diffly netted two goals.
