Look at my treasure!

Marlene Davis of Rathdrum has a little treasure made from a treasure-trove of Swedish coins.

The small ornamental boat was made by her grandfather, Emil Johnson, a Swedish emigrant who was both a coin-collector and silversmith. Davis says that at one time, her grandfather was said to have the largest collection of Swedish coins in the world.

After building a cabin cruiser in San Diego, Calif., Johnson made a small-scale model of the craft using coins from his collection.

Davis inherited the piece and displays it proudly in her home.

“It is a one-of-a-kind thing,” she says. “And I prize it.”
