Area organizations receive grants from Kootenai Electric
Kootenai Electric Trust recently dispersed third-quarter grants from its Operation Round Up program.
Eight area organizations received funding from the program that “rounds up” to the nearest dollar the monthly bill amount of Kootenai Electric Cooperative customers.
Recipients are listed.
The Dirne Community Health Center – $2,500 for a barrier-free exam table.
Community Action Partnership – $2,000 for school supplies for low-income families.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church – $2,000 for supplies and materials used at the St. Vincent dePaul’s Transitional Housing Facility.
Post Falls Food Bank – $1,500 for supplies for their Back-to-School program.
Kootenai County Sheriff Department’s DARE Program – $1,000 to provide materials for eight schools.
Project Safe Place – $1,000 for new phone system for at-risk youth hotline.
Children’s Village – $1,000 for purchase of large freezer.
Teen Aid Project/Coeur d’Alene School District – $350 to fund the high school tutoring program.
•The North Idaho College Latino Club recently raised approximately $130 used to purchase Spanish children’s books which it donated to a homeless children’s center in Honduras. To fund the project, the group sold salsa dance lessons provided by NIC dance instructor Sheryl Bentz-Sipe and professional dancer Felipe Lores.
•Kootenai Charities Inc. has donated $1,000 to the North Idaho College Foundation in support of two $500 scholarships, which will support one professional-technical student and one academic student. The grants are the result of the annual Demolition Derby held at the North Idaho Fair.
