Wine tasting to aid programs
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is hosting an evening of toasting and tasting to benefit some of the church’s programs, such as the St. Stephen’s basketball camp.
Representatives from 10 Spokane wineries will gather at the church today at 7 p.m. to answer any questions people may have about their wines and assist with tasting.
There also will be hors d’oeuvres and auction items, and the wineries will sell their wares at a reduced price.
Admission is $25.

Ramadan meal
The Interfaith Council is presenting an opportunity to join the Muslim community in breaking its Ramadan fast today at 5 p.m. at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset to renew their faith. It is also the month when God revealed the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims abstain from eating and drinking anything, even water, until sunset, when their fast is broken. Sunset today is at 5:47 p.m.
The meal will be an opportunity for people of all faiths to learn more about Islam.

Meditation sitting
The Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., is offering gentle meditation in the tradition of the Therevada insight Thursday nights at 7 p.m.
Participants will sit for 30 minutes and will discuss their experiences. Beginners are welcome.

Voice of the Faithful discussion
The Spokane chapter of the Voice of the Faithful is presenting speaker Linda Kolbe-Smith on Monday at 7 p.m. in O’Malley Hall at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Ave.
Kolbe-Smith will discuss “The Future Church.”

Theology professor to speak
James Edwards, a professor of theology from Whitworth College, will speak about his book “Is Jesus the Only Savior?” on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave.
Edwards will discuss whether Jesus was the savior of the world, or if the New Testament Jesus was a “nonhistorical Jesus, a wish fulfillment of the early church.”

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., is presenting Bishop Edward Paup of Seattle at its 10 a.m. worship service Sunday.
Paup is speaking in celebration of the church’s 125th anniversary. A potluck dinner will follow the service.

Chosen People Ministries speaker
Tony Sevarese of the Chosen People Ministries will visit two local churches to speak about the movement of Jewish Evangelism.
His first appearance will be Sunday at Central Baptist Church, 19 W. Shannon Ave., during the 11 a.m. service. Sevarese will speak about the “Fall Festivals of Israel.”
