So who’s the real Isaac? Another Kabbalah mystery
SIXTEEN YEARS AFTER she got in trouble with the Vatican over her use of Catholic symbols in her “Like a Prayer” video, Madonna is again rattling the religious. This time, it’s the song “Isaac,” from her new “Confessions on a Dance Floor” CD, that’s causing the controversy.
Israeli Kabbalist rabbis say “Isaac” is about the 16th century Jewish mystic Yitzhak Luria, whose name, according to Jewish law, cannot be used for profit.
Two rabbis told the Israeli newspaper Maariv they were calling for Madonna to be thrown out of Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical practice she (along with many other celebrities) has embraced.
“The absurd thing is that it’s not what they think it is,” the singer says. “It’s not a song about Isaac Luria. I don’t know anything about Isaac Luria, so I couldn’t write a song about him.
“The song is called ‘Isaac’ because the man who is singing on it is named Isaac. … (They) saw that name and decided that they were going to go out and say I was doing something blasphemous, and it’s just not true.”
First comes love, then comes … baby?
She might not be jumping on couches about it, but Katie Holmes says she’s ecstatic about being pregnant.
“It’s a dream come true,” she said on the “Access Hollywood” syndicated entertainment news show. “I feel great, (being pregnant) is so beautiful. I’ve never been so happy. … I’m beaming.”
In preparation, Holmes said she and fiancé Tom Cruise are putting together a baby room and that she’s learning how to knit.
As for wedding plans, she said: “We don’t have a date just yet. There is so much excitement going on.”
Sorry, kid, diapers don’t grow on trees
Meanwhile, maternity leave is over for Tina Fey.
She’ll be back behind the “Weekend Update” anchor desk on tonight’s “Saturday Night Live,” her first show since giving birth to her daughter Alice on Sept. 10.
“I had to get back to work,” Fey said, adding: “NBC has me under contract; the baby and I have only a verbal agreement.”
Everybody’s got a new baby
People magazine on Friday published a photo of Jennifer Aniston (the former Mrs. Brad Pitt) and Vince Vaughn kissing, further fueling reports that the co-stars of the upcoming “The Break Up” are romantically involved.
(Coincidentally, Vaughn previously appeared in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” with Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have since become an item themselves.)
Meanwhile, Sienna Miller is said to have been distraught after former fiancé Jude Law went out on a date with Selma Hayek – though Miller and Law presumably split following his affair with his children’s nanny.
Lucy, Mickey, Elvis – that’s variety
The Beatles are the top entertainment icon of the century, Variety magazine says in a new commemoritive issue marking the trade publication’s 100th anniversary.
Rounding out the top 10: Louis Armstrong, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Mickey Mouse and Elvis Presley.
Also making the list of 100 were the likes of Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, Bob Dylan, the Marx Brothers, Johnny Carson, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna and Lassie.
