2004 champ: Centennial

Title contenders: Centennial, Idaho Falls, Eagle, Borah

At a glance: This is Lake City’s second straight trip to state and second overall since the state activities association took over the tournaments in 2000. Borah was state runner-up last year. LC, which takes a seven-game winning streak to state, lost 3-0 at Idaho Falls early last month. Centennial has won two state titles since 2000.

Title contenders: Sandpoint, Nampa, Skyview

At a glance: Sandpoint has won four of the five titles since the state activities association took over the tournaments in 2000. Nampa tripped Sandpoint 2-1 on Sept. 17 in a match at Nampa. Skyview defeated Nampa for the District III title.

At a glance: Bonners Ferry returns to state for the fifth time in the last six years. The Badgers were third in 2001 and fourth in 2000.

Title contenders: Boise, Timberline, Eagle

At a glance: This is Lake City’s fifth state tourney in the last six years. It’s been an up-and-down season for LC, which had a five-game winning streak early only to lose five of nine with two ties before upsetting Coeur d’Alene in the Region I final. The Timberwolves’ first-round foe, Boise, has won three of the last five state titles. LC won trophies the first four years – second in 2000, fourth in ‘01, third in ‘02 and third in ‘03. All four trophies last year were captured by Boise-area teams.

2004 champ: Sandpoint

Title contenders: Sandpoint, Lakeland, Century

At a glance: Sandpoint has captured four of the five state titles. It was an all-North Idaho final last year with Sandpoint and Moscow. Lakeland, which is making its first trip to state, hopes the region’s pattern of success continues. Lakeland and Sandpoint split league matches and the Hawks broke through for the Region I title, forcing Sandpoint to win a play-in match.

At a glance: St. Maries is making its first trip to state.
