2004 champ: Idaho Falls

Title contenders: Idaho Falls, Eagle, Skyline

At a glance: Lake City is making its sixth straight trip to state and seventh overall. LC is seeking a third consecutive trophy after finishing third two years ago and fourth last season. Idaho Falls has won the last two state titles. Idaho Falls brings a 41-match winning streak to state, dating back to last year’s district tourney. Timberline finished second last year and Eagle took second the year before after winning state in 2002. Seven of last year’s qualifiers return. Borah replaces Coeur d’Alene, which saw a streak of six consecutive trips end.

Title contenders: Moscow, Skyview, Century, Bonneville

At a glance: Lakeland is making its first trip to state since 2002 and its first in 4A. It’s Lakeland’s 10th trip to state under 24-year coach Claudia Ebel. While in 3A, Lakeland captured four trophies – in 1986 (3rd), ‘88 (2nd), 1990 (3rd) and ‘91 (3rd). Moscow, fourth last year, is making its fifth consecutive trip.

Title contenders: Shelley, Middleton, St. Maries, Timberlake

At a glance: Timberlake is making its third consecutive trip to state and third overall while St. Maries returns for an eighth time since winning the last of 10 straight state titles in 1993. The Lumberjacks are tired of the dust collecting on the old state title trophies. They want a sparkling new one. After its stretch of dominance, St. Maries captured trophies in 1994 (2nd), ‘95 (2nd), ‘97 (4th), ‘98 (4th), ‘99 (2nd), 2000 (3rd), ‘01 (3rd).

At a glance: Kootenai, which should challenge for its first trophy in school history, is making its third trip to state overall. Wallace is making its first appearance since joining 1A last year. This is Wallace’s first trip to state since 2000. The Miners qualified for state in 2A three times, including a state title in 1994.
