Heatley scores four goals, Senators win

Dany Heatley scored four consecutive goals to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 8-0 rout over the host Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

He netted his first on a rebound when goalie Ed Belfour failed to catch a puck after initially making a glove save. Heatley made it 4-0 at 1:16 of the second period after Toronto’s defense failed to check him in front of the net.

The next goal came after he fell down and scored on a one-timer from the circle at 4:19 of the second.

Heatley recorded his career-high fourth goal on a breakaway at 5:33 of the third. He is the first NHL player with four goals in a game since Vancouver’s Daniel Sedin did it Feb. 24, 2004, versus Detroit.

Devils 5, Bruins 4 (SO): At Boston, Viktor Kozlov had two goals in regulation play and scored in the shootout, and Scott Clemmensen stopped 27 shots – plus two of three penalty shots – to lead New Jersey over the Bruins.

Kozlov opened the scoring in the first period and netted the first goal in the tiebreaker, heading straight in on Hannu Toivonen and putting the puck through his legs.

Rangers 5, Canadiens 2: At Montreal, Dominic Moore scored twice and Jaromir Jagr notched his NHL-leading 11th goal in New York’s win.

Lightning 3, Thrashers 2: At Atlanta, Fredrik Modin scored two goals, including the winner off an Atlanta player, and Tampa Bay rallied to beat the slumping Thrashers.

With Atlanta’s Serge Aubin in the penalty box, Modin shot toward the front of the net and got credit for the goal when the puck deflected off either the skate or stick of defenseman Niclas Havelid with 12:57 remaining.

Sabres 6, Islanders 4: At Uniondale, N.Y., Third-period, power-play goals by Daniel Briere, Tim Connolly and Ales Kotalik lifted Buffalo to a come-from-behind win over New York.

J.P. Dumont, Kotalik and Jochen Hecht also scored even-strength goals for the Sabres, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Martin Biron made his season debut and turned aside 33 shots.

Hurricanes 5, Penguins 3: At Pittsburgh, Rod Brind’Amour, Eric Staal and Glen Wesley scored within a 4 1/2 -minute span of the third period, rallying Carolina past Pittsburgh.

Wild 3, Blue Jackets 1: At St. Paul, Minn., Todd White scored twice as Minnesota snapped a three-game winless streak, beating Columbus.

Filip Kuba had two assists as the Wild returned to their defensive ways for the win, holding Columbus to just 16 shots on goal and killing eight of the Blue Jackets’ nine power plays.

Oilers 5, Predators 1: At Nashville, Tenn., Ales Hemsky scored a power-play goal and added three assists, and goaltender Jussi Markkanen made 23 saves for Edmonton, who sent the Predators to their first regulation loss of the season.

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 2: At Chicago, Robert Lang scored a goal in the third period and Chris Osgood had 23 saves to lead Detroit over the Blackhawks.

Kirk Maltby and Mikael Samuelsson also scored goals for the Red Wings, who are off to their best start in franchise history at 11-1.

Stars 5, Coyotes 3: At Glendale, Ariz., powered by timely goals from Mike Modano and Sergi Zubov, Dallas came from behind to defeat Phoenix.

Dallas trailed 3-1 in the second period, but Modano scored in the second period and Zubov, Niko Kapanen, and Jere Lehtinen added third-period goals to lift the Stars.

Avalanche 4, Canucks 3 (OT): At Denver, Ian Laperriere scored on a breakaway in overtime to lift Colorado over Vancouver on another no-win night for Todd Bertuzzi and the Canucks.

Sharks 3, Flames 2 (SO): At San Jose, Calif., Brad Stuart scored the tying goal with 22.4 seconds left in regulation, and Nils Ekman scored the shootout clincher for the Sharks in their win Calgary.

Kings 5, Blues 2: At Los Angeles, Pavol Demitra scored twice in his first game against his former team, Alexander Frolov had two goals and an assist, and the Kings beat St. Louis.

Capitals vs. Panthers, ppd: Saturday’s scheduled game in Sunrise, Fla., was postponed because of damage to the BankAtlantic Center caused by Hurricane Wilma. No make-up date has been set.

Off the ice

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks placed center Sergei Fedorov, defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh and right wing Corey Perry on the injured list.

Fedorov has been slow to recover from a left groin strain and missed the last eight games.

The Ducks recalled center Zenon Konopka from Portland of the AHL.

“Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Sean Burke strained his groin when he stepped on a puck during a workout before Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers.

“St. Louis Blues forward Dallas Drake was suspended for two games by the NHL after an illegal check against Anaheim’s Corey Perry in Friday’s game.

Drake was suspended for Saturday’s game at L.A. and for a home game Wednesday.
