Highs & lows: WSU vs. USC

The Spokesman-Review

High point

Lots of choices here … well, maybe not. Jerome Harrison’s 13-yard first-quarter touchdown made it look ever so briefly like the Cougars could hang with the Trojans. Until the extra-point attempt was blocked.

Low point

USC’s fourth touchdown came on its fourth possession, and it also came with 33 seconds left in the first quarter. Matt Leinart’s second touchdown pass to Steve Smith – good for 24 yards – made it 28-6 and effectively put the game away.

Play of the game

OK, we know Pete Carroll can call plays. But Snoop Dogg? The rapper went on ABC and predicted a LenDale White score up the middle. Three snaps later, it happened. Snoop got the ball, gave a told-you-so to the television audience and took off. That summed up the day pretty nicely.

Player of the game

Leinart had a ton of yards passing, White had a great game on the ground. But Dwayne Jarrett was a man among boys, twisting and turning to make catch after catch against a befuddled WSU secondary. Jarrett’s 11 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown alone would have been enough to make the Cougars look bad.

Stat of the game

WSU was 2 of 13 on third down; USC was 10 of 14.
