The Spokesman-Review

After three unsuccessful attempts, Community Colleges of Spokane men’s soccer coach Kenny Krestian earned his first win with the program as the Sasquatch defeated Columbia Basin 3-1 at Spokane Falls Community College.

Freshman midfielder Tao Shen (Pullman High) set the tone early for CCS (1-2-1), scoring on a penalty kick in the sixth minute and unassisted in the 15th for a quick 2-0 lead.

Chad Thornton (Cheney) iced the match in the 55th minute on an assist from Nick de Graffenreid (Pullman).

CCS outshot Columbia Basin (0-3) 23-3 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) East opener for both teams.

Eastern Washington’s defensive woes continued as four different Nevada players scored in a 4-0 Wolf Pack victory in a non-conference match in Reno, Nev.

Samantha Miller and Kristin Anderson each scored a goal and an assist for Nevada (2-1-1), who scored three goals in the second half and chased Eastern goalkeeper Tiera Como with 11 minutes left.

Como allowed three goals and had 10 saves for the Eagles (1-4) to increase her season total to 37.

Eastern was outshot 30-9 on Tuesday, and have been outshot 112-33 in 2005.

•CC Spokane fired 23 shots against Columbia Basin, but only Ashley Imes’ (Mt. Spokane) goal in the 41st minute found the net in a 1-1 tie at Spokane Falls CC.

Imes put the Sasquatch (2-1-1) ahead on an assist from Randi Brickner (Mead), but Tevia Hall squared the match for Columbia Basin (1-0-1) with a penalty kick in the 61st minute.

Brooke Petersen had 11 saves for the Hawks, compared to CCS goalkeeper Amy Danielson’s two in the NWAACC East opener for both teams.
