Chiefs continue exhibition slate

The Spokane Chiefs will continue their exhibition hockey season this weekend with two games in the Tri-Cities vs. the host Americans today and Vancouver on Sunday.

Spokane enters the weekend with a 2-1 record following last week’s exhibition tournament in Everett.

Golf

Roy Niznik of Lake Forest Park, Wash., came back from a seven-stroke deficit to win the WSGA Senior Men’s Amateur Championship at SunLand Golf and Country Club in Sequim, Wash.

Gene Teigen of Spokane started the day with a four-stroke lead. He finished with an 82 for a three-day total of 228 to finish in a fourth-way tie for second, two strokes back of Niznik.

Rodeo

Rowdy Buechner of Sandpoint was the top bareback rider on the first night of the PRCA rodeo event at the Spokane Interstate Fair.

Other top finishers included: Denny Hay in saddle bronc, Steven Lambert in bull riding, Stran Smith in tie-down roping, Travis Tarauscio in steer wrestling, Tyler Dempsey and Coley Frerck in team roping and Deb Renger in barrel racing. The rodeo runs through Sunday.
