Christian singer to perform

Faith Bible Church, 600 W. Cora Ave., is hosting Christian singer/songwriter Matthew West on Thursday at 7 p.m.

West is touring in support of his latest CD, “History.” Special guests Shawn McDonald and Paul Wright also will perform.

Red Mass

The Gonzaga University School of Law is celebrating the 2005 Red Mass for all members of the legal profession Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Ave.

The service will include a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The special service dates to the 14th century and is celebrated every year around the world.

Organ concert

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting Janet Satre Ahrend in an organ concert Sunday at 4 p.m.

Ahrend, the church’s organist and choirmaster, will present a program titled “Organ Music by Northwest Composers,” which will include pieces by Spokane’s Kevin Waters, William Berry and David Dahl.

The church is also offering tours from noon until 4 p.m.

The events are free, but a free-will offering will be accepted.

Seminars and conferences

• The Women of Worth are holding their annual conference Oct. 8, and the deadline for advance registration is Thursday.

The conference will be held at the Chewelah (Wash.) Peak Learning Center near 49 Degrees North ski resort from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature author Donna Partow, who will speak about her book “Becoming the Woman I Want to Be.”

The cost is $15, and tickets are available at the Thrift Shop in Priest River, Idaho, Floral Expressions in Newport, Wash., Humble Beginnings Bed and Breakfast in Chewelah or at area churches.

Kari Wagler, a psychotherapist, is presenting the seminar “Receiving Angel Guidance” today from 10 a.m. to noon in the Lair Student Center at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., is presenting “Fruit of the Spirit,” a nine-week course starting Sunday.

The class will be presented two ways: an adult class on Sundays at 8:45 a.m. and during the sermon at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service.

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal St., is beginning its Christian Education program Sunday.

Sunday school classes for children ages 3 and older will begin at 9 a.m., and worship services will begin at 10 a.m.

The service Sunday will feature Bob Baker, the director of Camp Lutherhaven, who will lead the congregation in camp songs. The children and Sunday school teachers also will be blessed during the service, and the church will serve ice cream.

Fun and games

Park Heights Baptist Church, 5101 S. Freya St., is presenting a carnival Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

CrossWind Church, 17302 N. Newport Highway, is presenting its fifth annual Frontier Days Festival today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The day will include demonstrations of how to load a pack mule, and the backpack of a mountain man, sled dogs, and a Western “quick draw.” Concessions will be available.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is presenting movie night in the parking lot Sunday at 6 p.m.

The movie “Danny Deckchair” (PG-13) will begin at dusk, around 7:30 p.m. The church will serve both popcorn and pancakes, and anyone attending should bring their own blankets and chairs.
