Dancers earn place in ballet programs

Three ballet students from the Graham Academy in Pullman have recently been accepted into summer programs with national ballet companies. Students were selected based on their auditions.

Dylan Fluster, 14, has been accepted into American Ballet Theatre with a partial scholarship. He also has been offered a full scholarship at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and a spot at Long Beach Ballet program in Southern California.

Kellee Odell, 11, has been accepted into both the Joffrey Workshop, a nationally acclaimed company, and to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

Lulu Saberi, 11, has been selected to attend the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

• Two area residents recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Angus Coy, who was homeschooled, is the son of Jay and Billi Coy of Spokane.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class John Padgham, the son of Luann Padgham of Spokane, is a 1995 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

• Kendell Higgs of Spokane was named to the fall dean’s list at Montana State University in Bozeman. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher to be named to the list.

Idaho

The Sandpoint High School Academic Decathlon team recently competed in the Idaho Academic Decathlon State Championship in Boise. The team won first place overall, first place in the Super Quiz category and won the Mellodee Thorton Team Award for Excellence. Individual honors are as follows.

Individual all-around awards – Honors Division: Callie Cole, second place; Hope Rainbow, third place. Scholastic Division: Doug Dishong, first place; Juliette Johnson, second place. Varsity Division: Isaac Dunne, second place.

Language and literature – Honors Division: Cole, second place; Rainbow, third place. Scholastic Division: Johnson, first place; Dishong, third place. Varsity Division: Dunne, first place; Nate Rench, second place.

Music – Honors Division: Jill Jacobs, first place; Cole, second place; Rainbow, third place. Scholastic Division: Johnson, first place; Dishong, second place. Varsity Division: Dunne, third place.

Science – Honors Division: Cole, second place. Scholastic Division: Dishong, third place. Varsity Division: Dunne, third place.
