Easter baskets, wooden planters among crafts at senior center fund-raiser

The Spokane Valley Senior Center will keep the bus running by being crafty.

The Senior Center will hold a craft sale today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the great room of CenterPlace at Mirabeau Point Park, 2426 N. Discovery Place.

A collection of 35 area crafters will display their wares, from jewelry to pre-packaged Easter baskets.

“We have a nice range of crafted items coming in,” coordinator Faun Clark said. “We’ll have jewelry, blankets, barn-wood benches and we have a man who makes wooden planters.

“We’ll also have two fund-raising tables. One is for a mission trip to Lethbridge, Alberta, by Dishman Baptist Church. The other is for Jessica Creach, who is going to the British Isles with People-to-People and is raising money to pay for that.”

There also will be an artist who designs silk floral arrangements.

“We’re going to have some paintings by a local artist, Hank Halseth – his paintings are on display currently at the center,” Clark said. “And we have one woman who is doing Easter baskets that are already filled and ready to give.”

Proceeds of the sale go into the group’s general fund to help continue current programs and to pay for the operation of the association’s bus.

The center will hold two more fund-raising events this month.

A Mystery Dinner Theater presentation will be next Saturday. Tickets for the catered dinner and mystery are $10.

To celebrate getting through income tax season, the center will hold a Pauper’s Dance April 18 from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Dancers are encouraged to wear their old rags to dance to the music of Uncle Harold’s Band. Tickets are $5 at the door.
