Man injured when ATV rolls over

A Coeur d’Alene man was injured Friday night in an all-terrain vehicle accident near the Nettleton Gulch trailhead.

Dennis K. Welling, 28, apparently had rolled his ATV on a trail near Forest Service Road 1562, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. Welling, who was wearing a helmet, suffered hip and leg injuries and was taken to Kootenai Medical Center. The accident was around 8 p.m.

Witnesses told officers that Welling was attempting to climb a fairly steep hill when he lost power in the loose rock and rolled over backwards.

Trails are wet and unstable at this time due to winter runoff, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
