Wings beat Jackets for 2nd straight night
Jason Williams scored the go-ahead goal and Chris Osgood made it stand in the Detroit Red Wings’ 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night at Columbus, Ohio.
Both teams seemed tired in the third period after a wild 6-5 shootout victory by the Red Wings 24 hours earlier in Detroit.
Brendan Shanahan and Tomas Holmstrom also had goals for Detroit, which cemented its position atop the Presidents’ Trophy standings with 114 points. Chris Chelios added an empty-net goal.

Rangers 4, Bruins 3 (OT): At Boston, Michael Nylander scored his second goal of the game 40 seconds into overtime and Jaromir Jagr set a club record with his 53rd goal of the season, lifting New York to a win over Boston.
Mighty Ducks 4, Kings 2: At Los Angeles, Chris Kunitz scored two goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 25 saves for his 28th victory of the season as Anaheim beat Los Angeles.
Islanders 5, Capitals 0: At Uniondale, N.Y., Alexei Yashin scored two of New York’s three power-play goals in the first period, and the Islanders snapped their season-worst, six-game losing streak by shutting down Alexander Ovechkin and Washington.
Maple Leafs 5, Flyers 2: At Philadelphia, Jeff O’Neill had two goals, leading Toronto to a victory over the Flyers.
Devils 3, Canadiens 2: At Montreal, Brian Gionta got his 43rd goal and Scott Gomez scored twice – his 29th and 30th – and New Jersey took sole possession of sixth place in the Eastern Conference with a win over Montreal.
Lightning 1, Penguins 0: At Tampa, Fla., Sean Burke made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season, and Tampa Bay beat Pittsburgh.
Thrashers 5, Hurricanes 2: At Atlanta, Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 51st goal to offset Justin Williams’ two-goal effort and keep the Thrashers’ slim playoff hopes alive with a victory over Carolina.
Sabres 6, Senators 2: At Ottawa, Tim Connolly scored two goals to lead Buffalo to a win over Ottawa.
Predators 2, Blackhawks 1 (SO): At Nashville, Tenn., Paul Kariya scored in the second round of a shootout, and the Predators clinched their second straight playoff berth with a victory over Chicago.
Canucks 3, Flames 2 (OT): At Vancouver, British Columbia, Ed Jovanovski returned from a 21/2-month absence to score the winning goal with 2:33 left in overtime, lifting Vancouver to a win over Calgary.
Stars 3, Coyotes 2 (SO): At Glendale, Ariz., Jussi Jokinen and Bill Guerin scored in a shootout to give Dallas a come-from-behind victory over Phoenix. The victory was the 51st of the season for the Stars, matching their franchise record set in 1998-99, the year Dallas won its only Stanley Cup.
