Area churches plan Easter services, events

Easter services

With the arrival of Easter, many area churches are celebrating with special services for Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Interfaith Council is offering an Easter sunrise service Sunday at 6:30 a.m. at the Lofty Cross of Inspiration in Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way. Kenny Andrews of Calvary Baptist Church will provide the music.

Everyone attending should dress warmly and bring hot drinks to share. For more information call 329-1410.

St. Matthew’s Church, 6905 N. Country Homes Blvd., is offering Easter Sunday worship services at 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. and breakfast at 8:30.

The church also regularly offers Sunday school and Bible study at 9:15. For more information, call 326-3766.

Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta St., celebrates Easter with a traditional ceremony including the choir at 9 a.m., and a contemporary service featuring the worship team at 10:45. For more information, call 327-5522.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is having a Celebration of Joy Easter service Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Nursery care is available. For more information, call 624-1366.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., is holding an Easter vigil today at 7 p.m. that will include candlelight and contemplative chants.

Easter Sunday services will include a traditional choral Eucharist and a reception at 8 a.m., and a family Eucharist, reception and egg hunt at 10.

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd., is celebrating with an Easter Eggstravaganza today from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will include crafts, music, snacks, an egg hunt and a walk-through drama.

Easter Sunday services will be celebrated at 8 and 10:45 a.m. An Easter breakfast of pancakes, sausages and eggs will be served from 8:30 to 10:30. For more information, call 325-5738.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is offering Holy Saturday services today that will include Holy Communion, baptism and a service of light at 7 p.m.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is offering a 7 p.m. Holy Saturday service today which will include an Easter Vigil and Eucharist.

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., is sharing its Easter services with Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church.

Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, is celebrating Easter Sunday with a sunrise service at 6 a.m., a worship service at 8:25, breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30. and another worship service at 11 a.m. For more information, call 466-1768.

Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, is holding four services on Easter Sunday, at 8 and 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary, and at 9 and 11. in Quall Hall. For more information, call 466-0305.

The Unity Center, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, is presenting its Easter service, “Awaken to Joy,” at 10 a.m. Sunday. Music will by provided by David Sharp, Mark Norton and the Unity Center Choir. For more information, call 489-6964.

First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., is presenting “Eyes of Faith” by David Clydesdale on Sunday at 6 p.m. The concert will feature the Celebration Choir and a drama chronicling Christ’s death and resurrection.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third Ave., is offering an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. in Mission Park, followed by breakfast at 8:30 and a Festival Worship service at 10. For more information, call 747-0984.

Metaline Falls Congregational United Church of Christ, 101 W. Fifth Ave., Metaline Falls, Wash., is offering a prayer vigil today at 7 p.m.

Easter Sunday will be welcomed at 7 a.m. with a sunrise service in the Metaline Park shelter, and breakfast will be served at the church from 8:30 to 9:30. An Easter Celebration Communion service will follow at 10 in the church. For more information, call (509) 446-3301.

• The Orthodox churches are celebrating Holy Week a week later than Western churches.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., is starting its Holy Week on Sunday with the Bridegroom Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. This service will reflect on our readiness to meet Christ at his second coming.

The church will also offer Holy Unction Wednesday at 7 p.m. It will anoint the faithful with sacramental oil for the healing of their souls.

Fundraising concert

Cheney United Church of Christ, 423 N. Sixth St., Cheney, is presenting the Prairie Flyer bluegrass and folk band in a concert today to raise funds for paving the church’s north parking lot.
