Babies and blankets just go together – and the Spokane Valley Community Center Auxiliary aims to keep it that way.

To that end, the group will hold its second annual spring fundraiser to benefit its Layette Program.

“Garden of Quilts & Tea” will be a two-day quilting show and afternoon tea April 22 and 23 at Horizon Middle School, 3915 S. Pines Road.

Doors open at 9 a.m. to view a broad assortment of quilts and to browse the wares of a collection of quilting vendors. Tea will be served at 1 p.m.

“We had a wonderful reception for this last year, and we’re excited to be able to do it again,” Sharon Hengy said. “The money will help us continue our children’s program.

“We provide new baby items for mothers who bring newborn babies home from the hospital. We call it our Layette Program.”

Last year’s tea was sold out. Tickets for this year’s event may be purchased by calling the community center at 927-1153, ext. 18.

The quilt show will feature work by local quiltmaker Michelle Crawford of Flower Box Quilts.

The fundraiser also will help programs that teach families to make safe choices for their children.

Tickets to the quilt show are $5 at the door. Tickets for tea are $30 each.

Menu for the tea includes an assortment of sandwiches, scones and desserts, which will be served with live entertainment. Tea will be served in fine china.

Each table for eight will be set with a king-size quilt and a complete tea setting.

Spokane Valley nursery Plantland will turn the school into a garden, complete with trees and hanging plants.

The ticket for tea includes an entry in a raffle for a hand-made quilt and a complete tea table setting for eight. Winners will be announced Sunday at 4 p.m.
