1) Haloti Ngata, Oregon

2) Brodrick Bunkley, Florida State

3) Claude Wroten, Louisiana State

4) Gabe Watson, Michigan

5) John McCargo, North Carolina State

The skinny

Scouts love the potential of Ngata, who is the most impressive physical specimen of the group and likely to be taken in the top 12. But many d-tackles taken high in recent drafts have fizzled out. This year’s crop includes a few boom-or-bust candidates, with multitalented players such as Bunkley and Wroten leading the way.

Seahawks prognosis

Seattle has been stockpiling this position, with veteran Chartric Darby, sackmaster Rocky Bernard and former first-round pick Marcus Tubbs getting help from recent addition Russell Davis. Throw overachieving Craig Terrill into the mix, and the Seahawks might not have room for anyone else.
