Women’s retreat

Beverly Greenslade, a spiritual psychologist, and Jo Ann Bender, a writer, are presenting weekend retreats for women.

There will be two sessions to find a spiritual path, journal, sing songs, eat s’mores, learn to play and more. Sessions run Friday through Aug. 13 and Aug. 25 to 27 at a bed and breakfast near the Canadian border.

Sitar concert

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., is hosting Pandit Shivanth Mishra and Deobrat Mishra in a sitar concert today at 7 p.m.

The South Asia Cultural Association and the Spokane Folklore Society are sponsoring this father-and-son duo that is touring the country to share classical Indian music.

Tickets are $15, at the door. Children younger than 10 will be admitted for free when accompanied by an adult.

Neighbor Day

Suncrest Baptist Church, 5920 Highway 291, Nine Mile Falls, is presenting Neighbor Day today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day will include a bounce house, live entertainment, face painting, hot dogs and cotton candy.

Feast of Transfiguration

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., is celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration today and Sunday.

The celebration begins with Great Vespers today at 6 p.m. and Orthros service Sunday at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. there will be a Divine Liturgy followed by a Transfiguration luncheon of salmon, rice pilaf, salad, green beans and dessert.

The lunch is $15 for adults and $8 for children younger than 12. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be sold separately.

Proceeds will go toward the church’s new copper roof.

The church is also presenting the Paraklesis to the Theotokos (Mother of God) service Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m.

The traditional service is chanted during the first two weeks of August and also during times of distress or sorrow.

Outdoor concert

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, is continuing its summer concert series Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The week’s featured band will be Moko Jumbie, which plays music from the Caribbean using steel drums and vibraphone.

During intermission, representatives of the Prince of Peace Preschool will be on hand to talk about early childhood development and parenting classes.

Audience members should bring a blanket or chair.

Hillyard breakfast

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal St., is presenting a breakfast today from 7 to 10 a.m. as part of the annual Hillyard Festival.

The cost is $4.50 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.

Vacation Bible school

Green Bluff United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Green Bluff Road, is presenting “Fiesta,” a vacation Bible school, Monday through Friday from 6 to 8:15 p.m.
