RiverHawks closer to title
Luke Farden went the distance on the mound and got plenty of offensive support, including an eight-run eighth inning, as the Spokane RiverHawks moved closer to clinching the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League regular-season title with a 10-1 victory over the host Bellingham Bulls Friday night.
The RiverHawks (27-13) have a 1 1/2-game lead with two games to play. Second-place Wenatchee has three games remaining.
Farden gave up seven hits, walking two and striking out two to pick up his fifth victory against one defeat.
Brent Mertens and Carl Uhl picked up three hits apiece and Darin Holcomb added two more hits. Holcomb, Mertens and Chase Powell had two RBIs apiece.
Fishing
Luke Clausen of Spokane lost in the semifinal round of the FLW Championship at Logan Martin Lake in Alabama.
He was edged by Shinichi Fukae, 12 pounds, 14 ounces to Clausen’s 12-12.
Twelve out of 24 anglers advanced to today’s finale.
