Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Crandell
Spokane
Gertrude Lydia “Trudy” (Warren) Crandell is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born Aug. 7, 1906, in Spokane and has been a resident of Eastern Washington all of her life.
She met her husband, Millard Crandell, at a dance she attended with her brothers. They were married from 1926 until 1943.
Crandell worked as a bookkeeper and office manager in a number of insurance companies. She says her most rewarding life achievement was writing a book of poetry and being involved in several ministries in her church.
She says exercise class and long walks have helped her live a long and healthy life. She also attributes her deep faith in God to keeping her focused and happy.
When asked what her most memorable moment in the past 100 years is, Crandell mentions the development of technology such as the automobile and space travel.
Crandell has two daughters, Marilyn Pontius and Joan Ryker, both of Spokane. She has five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
