Centenarian
Claude Hansen
Spokane
Claude Hansen is celebrating his 100th birthday today. He was born Aug. 8, 1906, in Sebeka, Minn. His family moved to Spokane in 1934.
Hansen met his wife, Margaret Kelly, in Hillyard while he was working. They were married Jan. 14, 1942, just three days before he left for service in World War II. Margaret died in 1994.
After leaving the service in June 1945, Hansen worked for several logging camps and Charlie Walker. After moving to Spokane he was employed with the Express Co., Sunset Electric, Madren Bros. and Master Motor Parts. He retired 35 years ago from School District 81, where he worked as a custodian.
Hansen attributes eating healthily and keeping fat out of his diet to helping him live a long and happy life.
When asked what has been most memorable in his past 100 years, Hansen speaks of serving in the military during World War II, in which his squadron serviced bombers in England, Africa and Italy.
Hansen says he is enjoying his retirement and says he also enjoys spending time with his children, Jacque Lane and Charles Hansen, both of Spokane.
