Spokane girls achieve first-place honors
Three Spokane junior golfers returned home from the Idaho State Junior Championships with first-place medals.
Sierra Bezdicek, Savana Bezdicek and Chessey Thomas dominated their respective age divisions at the tournament, which was played at separate courses in Post Falls, The Links Golf Course and Prairie Falls Golf Course, Aug. 7-8.
Sierra Bezdicek, competing in the 10-year-old age division, shot 9-hole scores of 44 and 46, finishing 14 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Gabrielle Barker of Caldwell, Idaho.
In the 12-year-old age group, Savana Bezdicek shot 36 both rounds, finishing at 2 under par and 15 strokes better than second-place finisher Megan Haase of Spokane.
Thomas, competing with the 14-year-olds, played two 18-hole rounds. She shot scores of 79 and 84, giving her a total of 163 and a 27-stroke victory.
Several other area youth made the trip to Post Falls to compete in the tournament. Spokane’s Kaitlen Parsons shot a 36-hole total of 190 to earn second-place in the 14-year-old division. Liberty Lake’s Katie Sorenson shot a two-round total of 170, good enough for ninth place in the girls 16 and older division.
In the boys 13-year-old division, Post Falls’ Tully Fedele tied for sixth with a total of 164, while Coeur d’Alene’s Spencer Skipper tied for 13th with a two-round total of 179.
Spokane’s Justin Haase shot 149, finishing one shot behind the boys 14-year-old division winner.
In the boys 15 and older division, Hayden Lake’s Tyler Johnson (145) took eighth place and Spokane’s Hank Frame (147) tied for 11th. Also placing in that division were Spokane’s Ryan Jones (151), Pullman’s Dillon Williams (152), Liberty Lake’s Tanner Robb (154), Spokane’s Alfaro Christian (156), Liberty Lake’s Chad Smith (166) and Dustin Christensen (168) from Wallace, Idaho.
In the girls 11-year-old division, Kellogg’s Kaceelyn Pouttu finished in fifth place at 125.
Brian Martin of Pullman shot 9-hole scores of 56 and 48 and finished fourth among 9-year-old boys. Clarkston’s Denton Wetherell took 10th place with a two-round total of 123.
In the boys 10-year-old division, Rathdrum, Idaho’s Derek Bayley took first place with 9-hole scores of 40 and 38. Also placing in that division was Hayden’s Tye Smith (92), Post Falls’ Trevor Fedele (94), and Liberty Lake’s Mark Beck (101).
In the boys 12-year-old division, Liberty Lake’s Troy Smith shot 9-hole scores of 55 and 57 to finish 15th.
Shooting
Spokane’s JR Snodgrass, Bryce Purdy, Viktor Henkle and Dean Flager were selected by the Eastern Washington Youth Outdoor Education Foundation to compete in the Washington State Sporting Clays Championships, Thursday through Sunday in Sumner.
