ITT names honor roll students

Lindsey Pomeroy recently graduated from the University of Montana with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Pomeroy, a 1999 graduate of University High School, is the daughter of Mike and Susan Walker of Spokane Valley.

Aaron Bigler recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs with a bachelor’s degree in military strategic studies and was commissioned a second lieutenant. Bigler is a 2001 graduate of Christian Heritage School in Edwall, Wash. He is the son of Barry and Cindy Bigler of Reardan, Wash. Bigler expects to attend pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.

“ Three area residents recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Airman Bryan Bischoff is the son of Betty Bischoff of Spokane, and is a 2003 graduate of Shadle Park High School.

Airman Shawn Roberge, the son of Robert and Patricia Roberge of Spokane, is a 2002 graduate of Ferris High School.

Airman Zachary Tyree, a 2004 graduate of Medical Lake High School, is the son of Derek and Susan Tyree of Medical Lake.

“Gregory Kirkwood recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs with a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering management and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Kirkwood, a 2002 graduate of Othello High School, is the son of Don and Angie Kirkwood in Othello, Wash.

“Two area residents recently graduated from Army basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

National Guard Pvt. Kelley Erickson, the daughter of Brian Erickson of Farmington, Wash., is a 1996 graduate of The Dalles (Ore.) High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Marvin Smartt II is the son of Marvin and Seykana Smartt of Spokane Valley.

“The Inland Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross recently announced recipients of several awards given to volunteers and supporters. The recipients include: Ozzie Wilkinson, the Anna Mae Erickson Award; Terry Coombes, the Clara Barton Award; Angie Johnson and Virginia Andreotti, Ella Mae Pilcher Awards; Sherm Carston, the Katherine A. Kimball Award; and Garv Brakel, the Vision of Excellence award.

In addition, Catherine Markson and Tamara McGregory received Chairman’s Awards and Col. Douglas Jackson received the Military Hero’s Award.

Reed Michaelsen of Pullman was recently a delegate to the Evergreen Boys State event in Ellensburg. The citizenship program, sponsored by the American Legion Department of Washington, hosted 260 high school juniors. Each boy was sponsored by a local American Legion post. At the event Michaelsen was one of two delegates selected to represent Washington State at the Boys Nation event held in Washington, D.C.

William Volpone recently graduated from Portland State University with bachelor’s degrees in communication studies and psychology. Volpone, a 2001 graduate of Shadle Park High School, is the son of Sheila Volpone and Bill Volpone, both of Spokane.

“Danielle Stevens of Spokane was recently named to the dean’s list at Boston University. Stevens, a 2005 graduate of Rogers High School, is the daughter of Holly and Bob Stevens.

“Spokane Community College students Corry Rogerson and Graham Jenkins recently received bronze medals for Web design at the recent SkillsUSA Championships in Kansas City, Mo. Each two-person team was asked to build a functional Web site for a nonprofit agency. More than 4,700 students participated in the weeklong competition.

“Charlena Cleveland of Spokane was recently named to the dean’s list at Loyola University of Chicago.

“Sammy Thomas of Cheney won the grand prize during the recent International Accordion Celebration in Leavenworth, Wash. He also won first place in the jazz competition.

Corrie Sams of Valley, Wash., won third place in the junior category. Rosella Stroud and Rita Ramos of Nine Mile Falls took first place in the duet competition.

“Ryan Mountjoy of Veradale recently graduated from Georgetown University. He is a graduate of Gonzaga Prep.

“Keith Taylor of Mead recently was awarded a $500 Harold Frank Engineering Scholarship for the 2006-07 academic year at Washington State University. Taylor, a 2006 graduate of Mt. Spokane High School, is the son of Lori and Maynard Taylor of Mead.

“Fred Barker of Spokane recently was awarded a $2,000 Manson B. Fisher Memorial Scholarship, a $2,000 Glen Terrell Presidential Scholarship and a $2,500 University Achievement Award for the 2006-07 academic year at Washington State University. Barker, a junior studying civil engineering, is the son of Peggy and Jack Barker of Spokane.

Idaho

“Austin Stiegemeier of Rathdrum recently received a $1,000 Phi Theta Kappa President’s Scholarship for the 2006-07 academic year at Western Washington University. Stiegemeier, a graduate of Lakeland High School, is the son of Darryl and Dana Stiegemeier of Rathdrum.

“Allison Hein of Sagle, recently received several scholarships to study this summer at the Florida State University International Programs center in Paris. She received the Bess Ward Honors Travel Scholarship, the Winthrop-King Scholarship and the Lucy Lester Honor Fund Scholarship totaling $8,500.

In addition, she has received a $1,500 E. Ray Solomon Scholarship and a $500 Karl and Sophia Schweizer Scholarship for the 2006-07 academic year at Florida State University. She also was named to the spring 2006 president’s list at the school. She is the daughter of Steve Hein and Debra Moy of Sagle.

“Drew Hooper of Rathdrum recently was named a National Award Winner in history and government by the United States Achievement Academy. Hooper, a student at Lakeland High School, was nominated for the honor by one of his teachers. Hooper was also recently named an Idaho Top Scholar by the University of Idaho Alumni Association and U.S. Bank for his academic achievement. He is the son of Gary and Melanie Hooper of Rathdrum.
