World music concert at CenterStage Friday
The Brothers of the Baladi bring their world music sounds to Spokane’s CenterStage for a concert Friday night.
Formed in 1975, the Portland-based group combines traditional Middle Eastern melodies with American rock ‘n’ roll, mixing acoustic, ethnic instruments with Western guitars, drums and keyboards, topped off by vocals in seven languages.
They have shared stages with the likes of Maria Muldaur, It’s a Beautiful Day and the Mamas & the Papas, released 10 recordings and contributed to soundtracks for several Middle Eastern dance videos and the upcoming documentary “The Holy Family of Egypt.”
Also featured will be local dancers Nizana, Desert Silk and The Nah’joom Dancers.
Doors open Friday at 7 p.m. at CenterStage, 1017 W. First Ave., with cabaret food service starting at 7:30 p.m. and the show at 8.
Tickets are $14 in advance through the CenterStage box office, (509) 747-8243, or $16 at the door.
