Art auction
The Friends of Paulsen House are holding an art auction next month to raise funds to help with the preservation and maintenance of the house, the administrative center of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane.
Works will be featured by several artists, including Tom Wakeley and Dianne Munkittrick. There also will be a silent auction featuring artwork from high school students, along with a no-host wine bar and gourmet hors d’oeuvres.
The auction will be Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. in the great hall of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave. Tickets are $35 and are on sale now.

Comedy
Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is hosting a performance by comedian Brian Wetzel on Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m.
“Side by Side: A Journey with Depression” is a one-man show that tackles Wetzel’s experiences with clinical depression. The performances are sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Spokane, the Washington Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the Coalition of Responsible Disabled, also known as CORD.
The cost is $10 for mental health workers and consumers and $15 for the general public. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.
Producers say that if this show were a movie, it would be rated PG-13, so it may not be appropriate for children.

Outdoor concerts
“The Cheney-Four Winds Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12905 W. Sixth Ave., Four Lakes, is presenting an outdoor gospel concert today at 7 p.m.
Audience members should bring a blanket or a lawn chair. There will be free food and refreshments after the concert.

“ Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, is presenting the Don Goodwin Trio on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The group plays progressive jazz. During the intermission, representatives from the Interfaith Hospitality Network and the Second Harvest Food Bank will be available.
Audience members should bring their own blanket or lawn chair plus their own snack.

Vacation Bible school
“The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting vacation Bible school next week from Monday through Friday.
Children in preschool through the third grade are invited to attend from 9:30 a.m. to noon to visit a Mayan jungle, a medieval castle, a Native American village, an ancient laboratory and a Hawaiian volcano on a quest for “God’s Ten Commandments.” Kids in fourth grade and older are invited to be helpers.
After the morning session, the older children are invited to attend art camp from 1 to 3 p.m. Those who help out during morning classes should bring a sack lunch.
Registration is suggested but not required.

“Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3307 W. Rowan Ave., is presenting vacation Bible school for adults, youths and children Monday through Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
The church also is having a community picnic and festival, which will include a climbing wall, Aug. 26 at noon.
