Yankees 13, Red Sox 5: At Boston, Johnny Damon again punished his former team, hitting three doubles and sparking a five-run, tie-breaking rally in the sixth to help New York beat Boston 13-5 and extend their lead in the A.L. East to a season-high 4 1/2 games.
Athletics 7, Royals 2: At Kansas City, Mo., Barry Zito pitched eight strong innings and Oakland beat Kansas City. Zito gave up two runs and eight hits while striking out seven and walking two.
White Sox 4, Twins 1: At Minneapolis, Jon Garland pitched 7 2/3 strong innings, retiring 14 straight at one point, to help Chicago beat Minnesota. Rob Mackowiak homered for Chicago, which won for the seventh time in 10 games.
Rangers 3, Tigers 1: At Detroit, Mark Teixeira homered and Robinson Tejeda combined with four relievers on a five-hitter as Texas defeated Detroit.
Indians 5, Devil Rays 3: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Jeremy Sowers won his fourth consecutive decision and Jhonny Peralta had a two-run triple during a three-run fourth as Cleveland beat Tampa Bay.
