Outfielder Shawn Green was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, giving the National League East leaders one more big bat as they gear up for the postseason.

The Diamondbacks sent the 33-year-old Green and cash to the Mets for Triple-A pitcher Evan MacLane, a 23-year-old left-hander.

Green reported to the ballpark for Arizona’s game at San Francisco, but only stayed about 10 minutes. He was seen waving to Giants manager Felipe Alou as he left the stadium.

“I’m definitely excited for the opportunity,” Green said, speaking from San Francisco International Airport. “I really like the Mets’ chances to go to the postseason and have a chance at the World Series.”

Green, who waived his no-trade clause, was hitting .283 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs this season. The two-time All-Star once hit four homers in a game, and has four seasons of at least 100 RBIs. He expects to join the Mets as soon as today.

Delgado hits 400th home run

Carlos Delgado hit a solo shot and a grand slam, giving the Mets slugger 400 career home runs.

Delgado moved past Al Kaline and Andres Galarraga into 42nd place on the career list. Delgado connected both times off St. Louis’ Jeff Weaver. Delgado led off the second inning with his 30th home run of the season, then hit his 11th career slam in the fifth.

Glavine does not need surgery

Tom Glavine will soon resume his quest for 300 victories and another World Series ring.

Allaying fears that Glavine’s season – and career, possibly – could be over because of a blood clot in his left shoulder, the Mets said that he won’t need surgery. Instead, Glavine should be able to rejoin the Mets rotation in seven to 10 days. In fact, he may not need to go on the disabled list.

Still sharp at 40, Glavine is 12-6 with a 3.92 ERA this season.

Park goes back on DL

San Diego right-hander Chan Ho Park went back on the disabled list and the team said its doctors might have narrowed down the cause of his intestinal bleeding.

“They think they have found the source of the bleeding,” trainer Todd Hutcheson said about an hour before the Padres played the Dodgers. “Once they have confirmed that, they’re going to figure out how to get it stopped.”

Park lost about one-third of his blood volume since the bleeding in his small intestine began again on Monday morning, Hutcheson said. Park received one unit of blood on Monday night and another on Tuesday morning.

Taveras ties Astros record

Outfielder Willy Taveras extended his hitting streak to 25 games, matching the Houston Astros record set by Jeff Kent.

Pirates send Hernandez to Phils

The Philadelphia Phillies traded for utility infielder Jose Hernandez, giving the Pittsburgh Pirates cash in the deal.

With Aaron Rowand likely out for the season with a broken left ankle, the Phillies wanted to acquire another right-handed hitter.

Hernandez hit .267 with two homers and 12 RBIs in 67 games with the Pirates.
