Gators drop another

Al Thornton scored 28 points, including two free throws with 4 seconds left, and Florida State upset No. 4 Florida 70-66 Sunday night in Tallahassee, Fla.

Isaiah Swann added 11 points for the Seminoles (5-2), who shot 46.6 percent and committed just 10 turnovers, compared to Florida’s 19.

Taurean Green scored 21 points and Walter Hodge added 17 for Florida (7-2). The Gators were without 6-foot-9 starting forward Corey Brewer, who missed his second game with mononucleosis.

(1) UCLA 61, UC Riverside 38: At Los Angeles, Arron Afflalo scored 13 points to help the top-ranked Bruins (6-0) beat the Highlanders (3-5).

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Bruins.

Henrik Thomsen finished with eight for the Highlanders.

UCR was limited to four points over the final 7 1/2 minutes on baskets by Justin Bell and Michael Creppy. The Highlanders shot 30 percent for the game and committed 12 turnovers – under their 20.2 average.

(2) Pittsburgh 74, Auburn 66: At Auburn, Ala., Aaron Gray scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and made two key plays late to help the Panthers (8-0) beat the Tigers (6-3).

Korvotney Barber led Auburn with 19 points on 8 of 13 shooting while Josh Dollard had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Pitt shot 61 percent in the first half but led only 44-39.

(20) UConn 106, Texas Southern 55: At Storrs, Conn., A.J. Price scored 20 points and Hasheem Thabeet tied a Connecticut record with 10 blocked shots as the Huskies (7-0) blew out the Tigers (2-6).

Leonta Matthews had 10 points to lead Texas Southern.

Miami 90, (21) Georgia Tech 82: At Coral Gables, Fla., Jack McClinton had 22 points and Anthony Harris added 21 to help the Hurricanes (5-3, 1-0) beat the Yellow Jackets (6-2, 0-1) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both schools.

Lewis Clinch scored 22 points for Georgia Tech, and Ra’Sean Dickey had 19 on 7 for 7 shooting.

Notre Dame 81, (23) Maryland 74: At Washington, Kyle McAlarney scored a career-high 18 points and keyed a decisive second-half run to help the Irish (6-1) beat the Terrapins (8-1).

McAlarney finished 6 of 11 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

Rob Kurz also scored 16 for the Irish and Colin Falls scored 14.

D.J. Strawberry led the Terrapins with 17 points.

(24) Nevada 77, California 71: At San Jose, Calif., Ramon Sessions scored eight straight points in the final minutes, and the Wolf Pack (7-1) got off to its best start since 1951 with a win over the Golden Bears (6-2).

Marcelus Kemp scored 20 points and Sessions finished with 19 – including 13 in the final 4 minutes.

Ayinde Ubaka scored 16 points and DeVon Hardin had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Bears.

(25) Virginia 67, N.C. State 62: At Charlottesville, Va., Sean Singletary hit a tiebreaking 16-foot jumper with 1:03 left and the Cavaliers (5-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Wolfpack (5-1, 0-1).

J.R. Reynolds and Will Harris scored 14 apiece for Virginia.

The Wolfpack got 17 points from Brandon Costner and 15 from Gavin Grant.

Ben McCauley added 12 points.
