Hints from Heloise
Dear Heloise: I was looking for a way to recycle the packing foam peanuts from a box I received recently when I noticed that on the box it said that many package mailing offices will take the packing materials and reuse them.
The package mailing store in my neighborhood was happy to reuse the packing peanuts and said that the next time I come in, I won’t be charged for packaging! – Isabel Howard, San Antonio
Recycle and save money! What could be better? And for others who would like to recycle, call the Plastic Loose Fill Council’s toll-free phone number, (800) 828-2214, and listen to a recorded message for your area listing the names and addresses of participating businesses. Or simply ask the store nearest you!
Other uses for plastic foam peanuts: Secure in newspaper bags and use to stuff valances; give a beanbag chair a “lift” by stuffing with some foam peanuts; stuff an old pillowcase and sew up the end for a quick cat or small-dog bed. – Heloise
