Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: My wife needs to know how to make hard-cooked eggs so that the shells can be easily removed. Can you please put it in the paper? – A Reader, via e-mail

Egg-cellent question! Hard-boiled (technically called cooked) eggs are usually hard to peel if the eggs are fresh. So, when you plan on hard-cooking some, buy them about a week ahead of time if you can. Our friends at the American Egg Board suggest the following method to get perfect eggs:

Put the eggs in a pan in a single layer, add enough cold water to cover by about an inch, then bring them to a boil. Cover, remove from heat and let stand for 15-17 minutes. Pour off the hot water and cover with cold water. – Heloise
