Whitworth ups record to 10-0

Jon Young tied a school record with 7 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points to lead the Whitworth Pirates to a 76-52 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Sunday in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The Pirates are now 10-0 and are ranked 8th in the latest D3hoops.com poll. They host their Alumni Saturday in an exhibition game, but do not play another official game until Jan. 2, when they are back at UCSC.

Women’s basketball

Senior guard Cameo Hicks scored 17 points and redshirt-sophomore guard Stefanie Clark added a career-high 16 to lead the Washington women’s basketball team to a 79-60 victory over the Nevada Wolfpack at Bank of America Arena.

The win improves Washington’s overall record to 5-4, while the Wolfpack fell to 4-5. The victory was also the second-straight for the Huskies, who are now 4-0 at home this season.

In addition to her 17 points, Hicks notched team-highs in rebounds (six) and assists (five).

Clark pulled down four rebounds and added two assists and a career-high three steals.
